Reading A STAAD Steel Take-off

Weight Extractor uses model geometry and member properties to organise a material schedule. You can read the workflow before submitting a project file.

What To Supply

Choose a STAAD STD model or an ANL with the numbered input listing. Member lengths come from node coordinates, not an optional printed steel summary. Review the source units and property assignments first.

Check A Schedule Line

For a catalogue profile with a mass of 20 kg/m, three members each 6 m long have a running length of 18 m and a nominal weight of 360 kg. Use this simple check against the tool's lengths, counts and resolved profile mass. Built-up members are calculated from their plate geometry instead.

Resolve Missing Properties

Unresolved or user-defined profiles need review; never treat a missing unit weight as zero material. Check the original designation and any matched alias. The model take-off does not automatically represent every fabrication plate, bolt, weld, coating or procurement allowance.
